LAKE CITY, FL – “This place is awesome!”
Those were the words of Stewart Friesen following the start to the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco ‘Sunshine Swing’ Wednesday night at All-Tech Raceway.
The half-mile oval hosted an open practice Wednesday night to kick-start the first venture by the STSS to the state of Florida.
Forty-one STSS Modifieds hit the track with Friesen, of Sprakers, N.Y., clicking off the fastest lap of 19.040 seconds. Friesen’s Halmar International No. 44 was among the first cars to power around the extreme outside of the clay oval.
Anthony Perrego was the second-fastest of the night with a lap of 19.114 seconds.
Both the STSS Modifieds and STSS Crate 602 Sportsman took part in six rounds of practice during the night.
Payton Talbot of South New Berlin, N.Y., led a 31-car Crate 602 Sportsman contingent.
With practice complete, attention now turns to Thursday night and the first of three race nights for the ‘Sunshine Swing’ STSS competitors. Modifieds race 30 laps for $5,000 to win and the Crate 602 Sportsman in a $1,250-to-win, 25-lap main event.
Hot laps hit the track at 6 p.m. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m. The events will be carried live on Dirt Track Digest TV.
