Annual 9/11 Tribute Event, a time of remembrance for the lives lost 24 years ago

Austin Griffis

Yesterday, All-Tech Raceway held its annual 9/11 tribute event, a time of remembrance for the lives lost 24 years ago. During pre-race festivities, we also took a moment to recognize our first responders and the daily sacrifices they make.

On track, the action heated up quickly with the WoodmenLife Street Stocks. Lined up three wide, 18 cars took the green flag for a 20-lap feature. Trouble struck on the opening lap as Stephen Hohlbough and Rick Osteen tangled in turn three. On the restart, Bruce Griffin went flying over the front of Wes Davis, also collecting Dylan Browning and Heath Walker. The third attempt to start the race would be the charm, as Devin Walker lead Bubba Christian and Jason Garver into turn one. Christian and Garver, along with Devin McLeod, each had an opportunity to challenge Walker for the top spot. However, when the checkered flag waved, it was Walker claiming his seventh-consecutive win of the season.

The Captial Metal Supply 602 Late Models saw Holden Allen on the pole, chasing back-to-back feature wins. Unfortunately, Allen was moved back a row by race control for jumping the initial start. This placed Georgia’s Griffin Jones on the front row alongside Jason Garver. Garver, who finished third a week ago, established control of the race early and led all 20 laps to score his first All-Tech win of 2025. Jones would finish second and Allen settled for third. Allen now sits atop the points standings, a mere four points ahead of Brandon Yates.

The Buildings and More Factory Stocks always put on a great show, and last night was no exception. With a three-wide start, Blake Clouser, Patrick Williams and Mike Tovet shared the front row of a 21-car field. Williams led the way early with Clouser hounding him until a caution waved for Joe Belkey and Shane Taylor crashing in turn one. Despite what looked like heavy contact, both drivers were able to continue. Williams led Clouser back to green on the lap seven restart, but less than a lap later Mikey Kopka ran into the back of Clouser and turned him around. Both Kopka and Clouser would be sent to the tail of the field. On the next restart it was Tovet challenging Williams for the lead. Tovet stayed within striking distance, but would have to settle for second as he was unable to pass Williams, who went on to win the race.

The Jett Concrete Works 604 Late Models had a strong 17-car field for their 25-lap feature. Points leader, Brandon Wells, started on the pole with last week’s winner, Bubba Whitener, to his outside. Whitener took the lead as Wells immediately began to fade backwards. Mark Whitener, who started fourth, made his way to second by the end of the opening lap. Mark chased his son for the majority of the race. In fact, Bubba had stretched his lead to 1.1 seconds with ten to go. However, Mark was able to find speed at the top of the racetrack, and began to run Bubba down. Mark made the pass for the lead with four laps remaining to secure the win over his son. Garrett Stewart, who finished seventh, took over the points lead as Brandon Wells suffered his second-straight DNF. Stewart leads Wells by just two points

Closing out the night was the Plumb Level Construction Crown Vics, which had a record-setting 39 cars in attendance. Twenty cars were locked in from the heat races, and after a chaotic last chance race (won by Joey Watson), 27 cars took the green flag for the feature. Mason Cassidy, Zachary Curtis and Tony Bromley made up the front row. Curtis led the opening three laps before being passed by Cassidy. Curtis would then pass Cassidy back two laps later. Tim Roach Sr then made his way to second as Cassidy fell back to fifth. Cassidy would then drive his way back to the runner-up spot, but it was Curtis claiming the win in his maiden voyage to All-Tech Raceway. Ronnie Klys finished in the fourth spot, extending his points lead to 69 over Ty Ottinger.

All-Tech Raceway returns to racing October 4th for the Second Annual Tim Grubaugh Sprint Car Showdown. Also racing will be the Jett Concrete Works 604 Late Models and Plumb Level Construction Crown Vics
